The SSST Gymnasium came about from a desire to create a generation of students who could cope with the challenges of a modern university education. In my ten years as the Head of the English Language Department at the Sarajevo School of Science and Technology University, I have had the chance to see what skills are most beneficial to university graduates, and our aim is to start developing these skills at high school level. Our mission, to create graduates with both theoretical and real-life skills, who will be aware of the needs of the job market well before they have to join it, and who will be fully fluent in English, has led us to create a curriculum with a strong focus on practical work, from innovative projects done in the third year of studies, to week-long internships in the winter months at selected institutions.

Our biggest strength and main goal is quality – in the selection of courses, faculty and teaching materials. For that reason, our teaching staff is made up primarily of seasoned university professors, who will instil in their students a desire to go further into academic study, helping them discover in what areas their potentials lie. A further step in ensuring quality will be our collaboration with Wellington College (http://www.wellingtoncollege.org.uk/) in the UK. Founded in 1859, Wellington is one of the top private schools in the UK, the students of which are accepted at the UK’s most renowned universities, Cambridge and Oxford. This collaboration will include student exchanges between our two schools, faculty training, as well as distance learning programmes that will include joint learning experiences and projects.
